Lucy
Hi, my name is Linda Theodosakis. I wrote the screenplay LUCY. Thank you for visiting.

LUCY is the story of a thirteen-year-old girl named Lucy and her edgy older teenage brother Chris. Lucy has long felt responsible for her wild brother Chris but after his release from a year in reform school, she finds him more angry and destructive, but also more exciting. Wanting to keep him safe while at the same time enticed by his world, she tags along going further and further into dangerous territory. Her hope is that if things go too far she can pull him back from the abyss while never considering that she could fall as well.

I loved writing LUCY. The story is a roller coaster ride and I laughed, cried and was thoroughly enraged as I rode along with the beloved characters. I love all of them, but at times, there are some I love to hate. I adore getting to this place with a story. The place where the characters start to speak to me. At first, when we are getting to know one another, they whisper little things in my ear but by now all niceties have ceased and they shout their messages. It may sound a little crazy but whatever it is, to me, it’s magical.

The story LUCY - without being too specific - explores the theme of how we try to save others. As I wrote the story, I was interested to discover someone could be scary, a burden but also wonderful, exciting and the doorway to a world perhaps too frightening to go alone. I spoke with many people about this theme and heard multiple stories expressing the heavy burden of trying to save others. Brothers saving sisters, children trying to save mothers and fathers, wives trying to save husbands, even humans trying to save animals. At this point, no animals have come clean about trying to save humans. One woman described her feeling of trying to save someone as, “no matter what I tried to do he kept pushing me away and jumping back into the water - even though he couldn’t swim. It was like helplessly standing by watching someone drown”.

Is it possible to save someone? What do you think?
